Modern, contemporary
30x40.

We used to have a white climbing rose that grew on a willow arbor that I built at the back of our house. It was so lovely ........and prickly!!! I was always impressed that it did pretty well, because I'm not much of a gardner.

Wings of a Dancer
16x20
Not for sale.

These wings are a tribute to a young dancer and the poem is by Rumi.

Dancing is not just getting up painlessly,
Like a leaf blown in the wind;
Dancing is when you tear your heart out, and rise out of the body, to hang suspended between the worlds.

Day 22. 30 paintings in 30 days.

I was getting my art ready for a tradeshow, and thought I would prep a canvas to paint onsite. Before I knew it, it was three in the morning, and I had a finished painting.

30 paintings in 30 days ......ish. Day 21

I taught a class last  weekend painting Angel Wings. This was my demo, and I finally got it finished. It's called "Angel Whispers II". It's 14x18.

Acrylic and gold leaf on canvas
Available for sale.
There were 7 ladies that took the class and 7 awesome paintings came out of it. They did a great job. I know it can be scary and intimidating to take a class, so I appreciate each and every student that took a deep breath and joined in. I know that some were very nervous, but by the end of the class they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. I know of one for sure who has signed up to take the next one!!

30 paintings in 30 days. Day 20

It's been a great week already.  I finished window painting, finished Two commissions and shipped a painting to BC today.
This painting is a mixed media piece. It's part acrylic and part oil.  The paint I really thick, and creates the feathers that form this wing. I love the colors in the background.  Amethyst, and gold, turquoise, too.

30 paintings in 30 days.

Day 18
I have missed a couple days. I taught a class yesterday, then had a "family" day today. This horse painting was an evolving thing. I started with glueing some music and poetry on the canvas. Then I darn near covered them up!! I did some finger painting again, too.

30 paintings in 30 days.

I didn't post a painting yesterday, I worked all day on a commission and I'm not totally sure it's finished.  Today's painting is one that I reworked a couple times, and I'm quite happy with it now.
This painting has been dark purple, light purple and now back to dark purple. I tried to edit the photo so that it looked more purple than blue, but there it is.  Angel wings on purple
Available.

30 Paintings in 30 Days. Day 12

White Roses
I love the texture on this one. I wish I had gotten more translucent leaves.  They aren't translucent at all, they are about half an inch thick!  I'm still trying to get the feel of oils.  And I'm working on a huge Angel Wings painting, which is almost finished. So paint, paint and paint some more. I love it!!

30 paintings in 30 days. Day 1O

I am so excited to post this painting today. It has the feel that I was trying to get yesterday. Two of my favorite artists are Dreama Tolle Perry and Nancy Medina because they both paint glorious florals, as well as many other wonderful subjects.  I usually paint with acrylics and I have oil paints, but today I decided to dig out my oil paints.   I am thrilled with how this  painting turned out .  "Peonies for Amanda".

I went to a lovely bridal shower in June for Amanda Weaver.  (The Weaver house is the very first one where I painted for someone else.  I will always be grateful to Alison and Garnet for asking me to paint in their children's rooms. And I will always be thankful that I had the courage to say "Yes". )

These beautiful bouquets were the centrepieces for the shower. The purple painted mason jars and peonies and daisies and ferns were lovely!  I asked Sherry Creech, the floral genius, if I might take one home because I would like to paint it, and she said yes.

30 Paintings in 30 Days. Day 9

Last year, my daughter Angela, gave me 2 rose bushes for Mother's Day.  They have hung in there for me despite my gardening skills. Lol. Something has been eating the leaves.......slugs, I think...... But the pink one has bloomed all summer long.

So I was excited to do a loose floral painting.  It didn't "flow" as easily as I wanted it to, but after I left it alone for a bit, I came back and tossed some more paint on it, and now I am pretty happy with it.
I would love to create a huge one like this.  Like 4 ft x 4 ft. I might try it again with white roses.
Stay tuned!!

30 paintings in 30 days Challenge. Day 8

The Raven

We were on our way to the cabin a couple summers ago, and stopped for lunch at The Farmhouse in St. Walburg, Saskatchewan. While we were enjoying our meal, somebody called our attention to the Raven stealing our buns out of the back of our truck. We ran out to shoo it away and but I grabbed the camera to take some photos first. I got a couple blurry ones, perfect for the reference for this painting.

30 Paintings in 30 Days. Day 7

When I walked  into my studio at 4:00 this afternoon, I didn't know what I was going to paint. I really love painting horses, even though I'm not a rider and

I had taken a bunch of photos of the horses in the wagon camp during the CPCA Chuckwagon finals week here in Lloydminster.  This horse belongs to Wayne Knight, from St. Walburg, Saskatchewan.   I call this one
Check out my Facebook page, Michelle Lake Lloydminster Artist or my Find me on Instagram, Michelle Lake Art for a video of the final touches.

30 Paintings in 30 Days. Day 6

I was thinking about what to paint and my daughter, Angela, said "Dandelion"
And I thought, YES!!!  perfect. By the way, Goldfish are just about my favourite snack.

30 Paintings in 30 Days. Day 5

What to paint today??  Hmm. I love painting horses, and on the way home from the lake today, there were about 25 wild horses on both sides of the road.......And one donkey.  I took tons of photos, and they were spectacular!!  I've had such fun painting this young warrior pony, that I've just realized it's almost 3:00AM!!!  And I don't feel tired at all.  And I actually really like the sketch the way it is.

It's still wet.  I will take a better photo later.

30 Paintings in 30 Days

I've been trying to get caught up on my painting jobs.  Our cabin is at Murphy Lake, Saskatchewan and the little area where we live needs a new sign, and I got elected to create it.  This is the view from our cabin.  We love to listen to the loon's haunting song from our deck in the evenings.

Day 3 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

This is my third nest egg painting.  Why?  Well, I've been teaching nest classes, and I tend to get my painting to a certain stage, so my students can follow along, then I help and advise them, without finishing mine.  So, I have taken some unfinished ones, and really messed with them.  This one started out with a yellow ochre background, and the eggs were bright turquoise.   I am loving the purple!
We are at our cabin at Murphy Lake right now.  So I painted between visits with my parents, our neighbours, and enjoying the view.
My mom was excited when I pointed out the my painting matched her outfit.

30 in 30. Day 2

This little nest is a painting that I started about a year ago.  I just finished it!  I have a huge Angel Wings painting on my easel right this minute, a commission I am working on. I will post it when it's finished. In the mean time, I'll post these little ones.
