Commission

I am working on this painting for a friend of mine.  Her son played  football for the Lloyd Comp Barons for three years, and the team won the Wheatland Football League all three years.  He is graduating this year.  It sort of looks like a paint by number, doesn't it?  I see #9, #46, #55...LOL.

As part of my exploration of trees, I decided to paint these birch trees in a abstract manner.  I painted the canvases with Cadmium Yellow first, then painted over that using white, aqua, yellow oxide and unbleached titanium white.  I really like how it turned out.  These paintings are for sale. To purchase you can leave a comment, email me or contact me on Facebook.    Tomorrow I start on a large mural at the Francophone School here is Lloydminster.  I will post photos of my progress.  Check back often for updates.

These birch trees are from Murphy Lake, also. They are up the hill from our place, at Doreen's, where the evergreens grow thick and make a beautiful backdrop for a grove of white birch.

My plan is to paint and explore a different theme or subject each month. January is obviously "trees" February will be "love".
I would like to have your input for ideas. You become a "follower" of the blog and then you can email me a photo of what you think of when you think love. I could be a baby, a puppy, grandparents, candy, a car, a sport, a city.....you get the picture. If I choose to paint from your photograph, you will have the option to purchase the painting. There will be no obligation to buy.
The theme for March is "barns and doors". (I reserve the right to change my mind on this theme.) If you have any suggestions, please feel free to share.

New photo of the same painting. I hope there is less glare.
Hot off the easel, my first painting in 2011.
We have a cabin at Murphy Lake, Saskatchewan. It is surrounded by birch trees, poplar trees, willows and wildflowers. The deer will eat right out of my husbands hand and the chickadees and wrens sing and the hummingbirds empty the feeders almost as fast as we can fill them. I love it there. The end of summer fills me with a sort of sadness. I know that many of the birds will go south, and my parents, too. There won't be any swimming, shouts of laughter as someone gets dumped off the tube, or party boat cruises to watch the sunset, until next year. I love the cabin in the winter, too. We don't get there as often, but we enjoy the crisp, cold air and playing Farkle by the fire with our friends.

I hope 2011 brings everyone a year of fun, friendship, good times and happy memories.

The Clock

This is at the "Harvest to Home Market" in their entertainment room. Gail purchased a clock ( in the center) but she thought it was too small for the wall she wanted to hang it on, so I painted around it! I think it looks very cool. I love clocks and I happen to have a few around our house. Which one shall I paint around.......hmmmm.

Luxx Hair Salon

These are painted at Luxx Hair Salon in Lloydminster, near the south Tim's.  It was tricky getting the facial proportions correct.  In fact, the first version looked like Sarah Jessica Parker, eyes too close together and long nose and face.  I like this version much better .

The writing is definitely on the wall.

Paint, Paint, Paint...paint!

I have been working on this BIG project for a long time.  It's in Ulmer Chevrolet's showroom in Lloydminster.  It consists of a mural painted directly on the walls, then 6 large canvases painted and hung ontop of the mural.  The clocks signify luxury, time ( as a reference to the vintage automobiles) and it's time to buy a new car.  Also, I love clocks. I learned a lot about cars, too.
